Liquefaction Resistance of Sand-Kaolin Mixtures: Effect of Sand Sizes

چکیده
Grading characteristics, particle sizes, shapes and fines content are the factors contributing to liquefaction incidents besides major such as earthquake magnitude. Recent publications reports from of liquefied or potential soils show some evidence that size sand particles, grading characteristics will increase decrease resistance. However, date results still disputed need be expanded. Hence, aim this paper is investigate effects different sizes in sand-kaolin mixtures on The resistance with application sand-coarse sand, medium fine mixed (kaolin) (0%,10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) investigated through a cyclic triaxial test under undrained conditions. Each reconstituted sample was prepared target relative density 15% (loose state) 5% initial moisture for test. Effective consolidation pressures 100 kPa were applied tests. Microstructure analysis soil samples carried out explain behaviour tested. centrifuge selected so actual conditions could visualised. clearly reduced at sizes. The effect of nano-Kaolinite on liquefaction resistance of liquefiable sand
This study is an attempt to investigate the effect of the nano-kaolinite concentration on the liquefaction resistance of liquefiable sand from Gorgan city of Iran. To examine the influence of the nano-kaolinite concentration on the liquefaction resistance of nano-kaolinite-sand mixtures, three different nano-kaolinite concentrations: 3%, 6% and 9% were prepared. Cyclic triaxial tests were condu...
متن کاملliquefaction resistance of sand-silt mixtures using laboratory based shear wave velocity
laboratory data, which relate the liquefaction resistance of firoozkooh sand and non-plastic silt mixtures to shear wave velocity are presented and compared to liquefaction criteria derived from seismic field measurements by andrus and stokoe [1]. in the work described herein, cyclic triaxial and resonant column tests were conducted on specimens of clean sand and sand-silt mixtures with silt co...
متن کاملInvestigation of Liquefaction Mechanism in Double Sand Lenses
In many cases of heavy earthquakes, liquefaction has resulted in serious damages. Existing anisotropy in soil layers results in some difficulties to realize the reason for these phenomena. Loose sand lenses buried in fine soils are one of the cases which may result in these problems and as a weak point during the earthquake can cause this phenomenon. In this paper, using FLAC 2D software, doub...
متن کاملInterpretation of the stiffness and permeability of Sand-Kaolin mixtures in the framework of homogenization.
This study deals with the behaviour of mixtures of sand and saturated kaolin paste considered as composite materials made of permeable and deformable (with non-linear behaviour) matrix (the kaolin paste) with rigid and impervious inclusions (the sand grains). Oedometric and permeability tests conducted on such mixtures highlight the key role of the state of the clay paste, and show the existenc...
متن کاملInvestigation of Liquefaction Mechanism and Displacement in Buried Sand Layers
One of the most important reasons for damages during earthquakes is the liquefaction of loose and saturated sand soils. However, in many regions with proper soil specifications, the large settlements have been observed in the ground surface. Loose sand layers buried in fine soils are one of the cases which may result in these problems and as a weak point during earthquake can cause this phenome...
